Plato, the Church, and Self Governance

“He who refuses to rule is liable to be ruled by one who is worse than himself.” I love this quote. I like the idea of government and home government especially. I think that Christians, in the attempt to stay away from politics, really haven't fixed their gazes on the proper principles of discipline. That quote above was written by Plato in Plato's Republic. Proper, isn't it? Here we have an idealist talking about methods that are real and practical. Too often the idealist tend to be "heady" and too abstract that specific principles hardly qualify in the real world. If only the church would think in these ways and manners. Calvary Chapel—a church I really don't consider a visible institution—doesn't even bother giving the mind a proper place. There is no wonder the world doesn't respect the church.
